As the seasons change in Macleay Valley, so do the opportunities for fun and exciting events. Whether you're interested in outdoor markets, art shows, or music festivals, there's always something happening in and around the town. Below are just a few of the many seasonal events that locals and visitors alike can enjoy.
Autumn
One of the most popular events in autumn is the Macleay Valley Coast Growers Market, which takes place every third Saturday of the month. Here, visitors can peruse a wide range of fresh produce, handmade crafts, and delicious treats. Another autumn event is the Kempsey Riverside Market, held on the first Saturday of the month along the banks of the magnificent Macleay River. It's the perfect opportunity to take a leisurely stroll, enjoy the views, or pick up some unique souvenirs.
Winter
During winter, the Kempsey Shire Council holds various cultural events to showcase the talents of local artists and performers. The Kempsey Music Association Winter Concert Series, for example, offers a series of intimate concerts featuring local musicians and performers. In July, the annual Kempsey Art Show is held, showcasing a range of works in various mediums from artists throughout the region. Visitors can experience the talents of the local community in a fun and creative way.
Spring
As the weather starts to warm up, visitors can look forward to a range of outdoor events. The annual Boho Market is held in late September, with live music and food stalls, plus a range of artisanal products, fashion, jewellery, and household items. For an alternative to retail therapy, the Lower Creek Landcare Plant Fair is held in late August, showcasing a wide range of plants and gardening products from local nurseries. Visitors can also learn about sustainable agriculture, or pick up tips for their home garden.
Summer
Summer is a busy time in the Macleay Valley, with a range of festivals and events to choose from. The popular Riverside Rhythms Music Festival is held in January, featuring a range of live bands and performers from throughout the region. The Macleay River Summer Festival in December is another popular event, with live music, street performers, food stalls, and activities for all ages. The annual Kempsey Agricultural Show in February is a highlight of the summer calendar, attracting visitors from throughout the region with displays of farm animals, produce, and showbags.
